I remeber Avery from my years of working with the New River Soil & Water Conservation District. I knew him for about 30 years, in his role as an employee and as a district supervisor. Avery was always friendly and had something to say when I saw him. He always made me feel welcome and taught me a lot. For a few years I bought Christmas trees from him and brought them down the mountain to the Winston-Salem area for friends and family. Best wishes to you all, you are in my prayers.

I am Richard's son, he was the son of Leblon and Ruthie and Uncle Milford's brother, I am so sorry to hear of Avery's passing. I liked his stories of trees. I really miss all the Starling Family reunions and that time i lived in Shoeheel, on the Family farm.
