John Kent Coleman, age 72, of Jefferson, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral home with Rev. Tim Starbuck, Rev. Cameron Byrd, and Rev. Steve Goss officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Coleman was born in Watauga County on August 27, 1939 to the late John Coleman and Tulie Greer. He was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. He loved to hike and listen to the blues music. He is survived by his wife Mable Goss Coleman; three sons; John Coleman and wife Melonie of North Wilkesboro, Jeffery Leek of Jefferson, and Anthony Leek and wife Patty of Wilkesboro; two daughters; Kimberly Coleman of Cornelius, and Karen Ester and husband Geral of North Wilkesboro; one sister; Dorothy Neal of Statesville; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
