Ryan and family you are on my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was always nice to us neighborhood kids when you lived on the back street. She always welcomed us into her home as if we were her own.

Mary was my classmate at Ashe Central High School and we were the class of 1959. Mary had such a sweet spirit and love everyone and everyone loved her.
I have thought about her often and sometimes when I visited Jefferson UMC, I would see her.
I know that you will miss her and I will too.

Mary was a wonderful person to know as a former neighbor, a trusted church disciple and as a lady ever the optimist with a great sense of humor. She was also a joy to see as a patient. My condolences to the family as I know your sense of loss is great. May the words of the scriptures from Psalm 23 and the following devotional from the Upper Room provide you the Comfort and Peace that only the Holy Spirit can. God bless.
Psalm 23:1-6 (NIV)
[1] The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. [2] He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, [3] he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. [4] Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. [5] You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. [6] Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Today's Devotional
In the past I viewed the circumstances described in Psalm 23 as sequential — God would allow me to be in unfavorable circumstances and then deliver me to green pastures and still waters, to lavish banquets and overflowing cups, and to eternity with my Creator. However, my walk of faith and the reality of life have taught me something different: my time in green pastures and beside the quiet waters often occurs simultaneously with my walks through dark valleys.
I have come to understand that while no one is spared sorrow and loss, God is at the same time making available to us the Holy Spirit, the Comforter that Jesus promised before his ascension. I experience the truth of Psalm 23 not after I avoid or escape difficulties but during them. The Holy Spirit leads me toward green pastures and quiet waters and fills my cup to overflowing.
I do not wish for tragedies to come. Yet when they do, God faithfully provides rest and quiet, sustenance and protection as I walk on.

Andie,
Your mom was such a blessing to all of us. Her smile and sense of humor added such joy to those around her. One of my favorite memories ever is one day while we were in handbell practice and the song was sounding terrible. Everyone stopped playing to try to figure out what was wrong. Your mom looked around at everyone else's music then in a very deadpan way said, "Y'all are on the wrong song." I loved her.

Dearest Family,
Was so sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother. Mary and I grew up together and she spent many nights with me at the homeplace and I at hers. She was a special friend and I have many wonderful memories.
We were also neighbors when living in Jefferson. Jimmy, you and my son Chris played together.
One memory that always comes to mind is the day Mary brought Andie and walked down the hill to our house to see our new baby girl Susan. Andie you were to young to remember getting in the puppies food that day while your Mother & I were busy "talking" We laughed about that many times.
The loss of a Mother is like no other. Hold on to those sweet, happy, memories and she will always be with you.
Love and Prayers,
Dot H Scott
