Mrs. Mary Coldiron Bumgardner, age 70, of West Jefferson passed away Tuesday morning, January 17, 2012 at her home. Mary was born in Ashe County on Thursday, January 1, 1942 to the late Delmar and Johnsie Shatley Coldiron. She was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and served as the church's bookkeeper. Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She always had a positive outlook on life, and her shining personality and capacity to love brightened the lives of all those around her. Mary's wonderful sense of humor and cheerful spirit were cherished by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Darrell Bumgardner. Mary is survived by her children: James Bumgardner and partner Shane Burton of Greensboro, Andrea Bumgardner and husband J.D. Darnell of West Jefferson, and Ryan Bumgardner and fiance Amy Shaw of West Jefferson; grandchildren Jonathan Bumgardner, Heath Darnell, and Noah Darnell; and many extended family members and friends. A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 20, at 11:00 at Jefferson United Methodist Church, with burial immediately following at the Bumgardner family cemetery. A visitation will take place on Thursday evening, January 19, from 6:00-8:00 at Boone Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church.
