Obituary of Noah J Myers

Noah J. Myers, 93, of W-S, formerly of West Jefferson, died on Thursday, November 13, 2014. He was born March 3, 1921, the youngest son of John Francis and Louisa Gambill Myers. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Agnes Howell Myers, and by his son-in-law, Carl D. Krebs. Also preceding him in death were six brothers and three sisters. Mr. Myers is survived by a daughter, Jan Krebs; grandson Eric Marshall; great-granddaughter Maysun Marshall; and great-grandson Luke Marshall, all of Winston-Salem; and grandson Phil Morrison of New York City. He leaves an extended family of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, as well as 7 nephews, 10 nieces, and a bounty of grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews, including his young namesake, Noah Benjamin Myers of Fleetwood, NC. In addition, Noah leaves sisters-in-law Venita Howell Taylor, West Jefferson; Sarah Howell, Todd; and brother- and sister-in-law William and Leona Howell of Greensboro. Noah lived a life of quiet and humble testament to Christ. He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church, West Jefferson, for 50 years, serving as Deacon and choir director. After moving to Winston-Salem, he joined North Point Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and sang in the choir for a number of years. Mr. Myers served in WWII, U.S. Navy Medical Corps. After service, he was employed by Dollar Electric Company, West Jefferson, and wired many homes in Ashe County following the rise of the Rural Electrification Administration. In the late 50s, he was employed as Chief Electrician for Appalachian Sulfides, Inc., Ore Knob Mine, Jefferson, NC, after which he enjoyed a distinguished career at Sprague Electric Company, Lansing, NC, retiring as Plant Engineer in 1985. Noah had the kindest of hearts and touched the lives of all who knew him. For all his diminished hearing and vision, he lived life to the fullest. He took great pride in his great-grandchildren and delighted in almost daily contact with them. He was devoted to his daughter and to his dog, the late Buster. He canned green beans every summer, putting up his last run at age 93. He visited New York City at age 90, climbing 5 flights of stairs to his grandson's apartment. As recently as October, he enjoyed a local performance of another grandson's drumming. A memorial service, led by the deceased's nephew, the Rev. Bob Myers, and the Rev. Charles Edwards, will be held on Tuesday, November 18, Boone Family Funeral Home, West Jefferson, NC.
