Mrs. Vena Ree Wagoner Waddell, age 92, of Jefferson passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 19, 2014 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 2PM at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Goss officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Waddell was born in Alleghany County on Thursday, March 23, 1922 to the late Andy Hoyt and Ollie Carico Wagoner Vena was an active member of Fletcher Memorial Church until her health started to fail. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed them visiting her. She was also an excellent cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Carroll Waddell; her son, Earl Dean Waddell; and her brother, J.T. Wagoner. Mrs. Waddell is survived by two sons; Bill Waddell and wife Beverly of West Jefferson and Jim Waddell and wife Marie of North Wilkesboro, one brother; Jack Wagoner and wife Dorothy of Sparta, five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step- great grandchild; and one nephew also survives.
