Obituary of Thomas Gordon Hartzog

Thomas Gordon Hartzog, of West Jefferson, age 85, passed away Wednesday morning, November 26th, 2014. The viewing will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 1:00-3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home, with the service immediately following at 3:00pm, officiated by Reverend Lisa Hartzog Hannah. The family will receive friends thereafter at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hartzog. Mr. Hartzog was born in Fleetwood on December 2nd, 1928 to the late Bower Kilby and Dessie Younce Hartzog. He attended Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, where he met his wife of 64 years, Mae Baker. After college, Gordon served in the United States Army where he received training as an X-ray technician. After his service, he applied this training to a career as an X-ray technician, progressed into equipment repairs, and advanced to the level of Regional Service Manager. Mr. Hartzog is survived by his wife Mae; son Jefferson Gordon (Kathy Walsh) of Wilmore, Kentucky; daughter Debbie Lovitt of Detroit, Michigan; sister Toby (Willard); brother Everette (Mildred); brother Edward (Parmalee); brother Jacob (Brenda); and brother Steve (Lynn). He was preceded in death by his sister Maggie Jane (Clarence) Brown; brother Larry (Naomi); sister Pollie (Alan) Weaver; and brother David. He was also survived by three grandchildren, Malana (Neil) Salyer of LaGrange, Kentucky; Jack Hall of Chickamauga, Georgia; and Halley Hartzog of Louisville, Kentucky; two great-grandchildren Reece and Reagan Shea Salyer; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Flowers welcomed, or memorials may be made to the American Red Cross in his honor.
