Obituary of Mae Baker Hartzog

Mae B. Hartzog of West Jefferson, age 84, passed away late afternoon Sunday, Nov. 30th, only four days after the death of her husband Thomas Gordon Hartzog. A service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, Dec. 3rd at Boone Family Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Lisa Hartzog Hannah. Mrs. Hartzog was born in Waltersville, Kentucky in 1930 to James Baker and Nancy Tipton Baker. While attending Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, she met Thomas Gordon Hartzog, who was later to become her husband of 64 years. While living in LaGrange, Kentucky, she owned and operated an antique store. Mae is survived by her son Jefferson Gordon (Kathy Walsh) of Wilmore, Kentucky; daughter Debbie Lovitt of Detroit, Michigan; sister Ona Faye Jack of Tampa, Florida; and sister Virda Pelfrey of Winchester, Kentucky. She was also survived by three grandchildren, Malana (Kenneth O’Neil) Salyer of LaGrange, Kentucky; Jack Hall of Chickamauga, Georgia; and Halley Hartzog of Louisville, Kentucky; two great-grandchildren Reece and Reagan Shea Salyer; and niece Victoria Rabb of Portland, Oregon, as well as numerous other beloved nieces, nephews, and other Hartzog family members.
