Mr. Thomas E. Pennington, better known as Tom, age 70 of Lansing passed away Wednesday night, February 25, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 2:00pm at Gillespie Community Church with Pastor Jim Francis and Rev. Mitchell Mash officiating. Burial will follow in the Perry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Sunday, March 1, 2015, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Pennington was born in Ashe County to the late Wayne and Aulsie Eldreth Pennington. He worked for Thomasville Furniture. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Rena Pennington, better known as Ruby, after 50 years of marriage; a son, Jeff Pennington, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Renee (Na) Pennington, of Creston; two sisters, Brenda Osborne, of Creston and Christine Greer, of Lansing; three grandchildren, Tiffany Pennington, Zachary Barr and Noah Pennington; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Barr and Tucker Hazelwood; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will be meeting at the home of Brenda Osborne at 2596 Roaring Fork Road in Creston on Saturday after 12:00pm.
