Mrs. Annie Mabel Severt Smith, better known as Mabel, age 94, of West Jefferson passed away Tuesday morning at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Severt Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Smith was born in Ashe County, North Carolina on Tuesday, May 5, 1914, to the late George and Martha Miller Severt. Mabel was the oldest charter member of Roundknob Baptist Church. She retired from the Rose's "5 & 10" store. Mrs. Smith was a cancer survivor of forty some years. She is survived by three sons, Raymond Ray Smith and wife, Carolyn of Pleasant Garden, NC, Thomas Ralph Smith and wife, Dora of West Jefferson, Rev. Roy Commodore Smith and wife, Marion of Freeland, MD; five daughters, Elsie Maudena Stone of Asheboro, Sylvia Dean Roark of Jefferson, Pinkie Kathleen Cochran and husband, Everette of Cleveland, OH, Murrel Bly Walton of Shady Valley, TN, Sadie Lyle and husband, Bob of West Jefferson; one sister, Ida Miller of Ohio; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, twenty-eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
