Charles “Dean Baker, age 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning of April 29, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Carter and Rev. Larry Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Dean was born June 17, 1934 in Wilkes County, NC to Taft and Virgie (Church) Baker. He was a member of Orion Baptist Church. Dean was a self-employed farmer, who enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle and Belgian horses. He was proud of his family. He would take any opportunity to tell you about his daughters or grandchildren. He enjoyed many friendships and spent his mornings with friends drinking coffee at People’s Drug. He is survived by his wife, of 53 years, Evelyn (Dillard) Baker, three daughters, Kimberly (Jimmy) Barnes, and Amy (Jeff) Walker of Crumpler, NC, and Melanie (Scotty) Jordan of Fleetwood, NC. Four brothers, Austin (Kay) Baker of West Jefferson, Glen Baker and Arvil (Joyce) Baker of Fleetwood and Arvin (Janice) Baker of Lincolnton, NC. Two sisters, Arlene (Gale) Goodman of Canton, NC, and Ima Lee (Ray) Golds of Fleetwood. Two grandsons, and four granddaughters, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter also survive. Special caregivers to Dean are Kenny Gilvear, Barbara Royal, and Phyllis Miller.
