Mr. John Clifton Charles, age 94, of West Jefferson passed away Saturday morning, May 2, 2015 at W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 2:00pm at Blue Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Francis officiating with military rites. Mr. Charles was born in High Point, NC on Friday, April 1, 1921 to the late Eddie Ross and Ora Elizabeth Hancock Charles. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. John was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist church. He retired from the educational system, where was worked as a Math teacher. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Parsons Charles; a brother, H.E. Charles. Mr. Charles is survived by three sons, Edward P. Charles and wife, Lorinda, of High Point, Gregory B. Charles and wife, Terssa, of Cornelius, NC and John C. Charles, Jr. and wife, Gina, of Spring Hill, FL; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
