Mr. John Roy Barker, age 90, of Fancy Gap, Virginia, formerly of Ashe County passed away Friday morning, May 1, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 3:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Jerry Keegan officiating. Burial will follow in the Smethport Cemetery with military rites The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 on Wednesday, two hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Barker was born in Ashe County on August 28, 1924 to the late Winfield and Allie Wiles Barker. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as a Concrete Engineer. He was preceded in death by two wives, Dovie Poe Barker and Sue Combs Barker; six sisters, Ellie Sturgill, Grace Stone, Cario Gilley, Marie Grubb, Pauline Shatley and Hazel Hensley; two brothers, Glenn Barker and Jack Barker; a son by marriage, Randall Combs. Mr. Barker is survived by three daughters, Shearon Campbell and husband, Bill, of Fancy Gap, Pamela Walden and husband, Robert, of Kannapolis and Shelia Talbot and husband, Paul, of Kannapolis; two sisters, Louise Barker Severt and husband, Johnny, of West Jefferson and Myrtle Topsie Halsey, of Jefferson; a special nephew, Clyde Nicholson and wife Dorothy, of North Wilkesboro; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
