Mrs. Bertha Hoosier Calhoun, age 97, of Creston passed Wednesday morning, May 6, 2015 at Margate Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 2PM at Big Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Hamm, Rev. Steve LeaShomb, and Rev. JB Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, 2015 one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Mrs. Calhoun was born in Ashe County on May 29, 1917 to the late Millard and Fannie Poe Hoosier. She was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband Roy Calhoun; and two daughters, Grace Sheets and Linda Greer. Mrs. Calhoun is survived by four daughters; Muriel Eldreth of West Jefferson, Burle Hamm and husband JB of Lansing, Lois Jones of Mountain City, and Jean Cooper and husband Jerry of Concord, three brothers; Ray Hoosier of Delaware, Dean Hoosier of Lansing, and Spencer Hoosier of Delaware; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; seventeen great, great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
