Mrs. Edna Belle Couden, age 83, of West Jefferson, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11AM at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lonnie Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott Family Cemetery. The family will receive friend on Saturday, May 9, 2015, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Couden was born in Ashe County on May 17, 1931 to the late George and Essie Elliott. Edna was a very strong woman and overcame several battles in her life. She retired from Leviton Mfg. Company. She was the best cook of Red Velvet Cake in the world. She enjoyed reading her Bible and taking walks to enjoy God's nature. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Warren Powers and James Couden; a son, Gary Powers; three brothers, Frank Elliott, Elsie Ellioot and Earl Elliott; a sister, Doil Birchall. Mrs. Couden is survived by three sons, Larry Powers and wife, Lynn, of Laurel Springs, Jerry Powers and wife, Frances, of Jefferson and Raymond Powers, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Deborah Powers, of Elizabethton, TN; three brothers, Wayne Elliott, Claude Elliott and Worth Elliott, all of Lansing; a sister, Julie Richardson, of Lansing; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
