Obituary of Ella Mae Sherman
Mrs. Ella Mae Woodie Sherman, age 83, of Jefferson went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, April 25, 2009 at the Margate Health and Rehab Center in Jefferson.
A private service will be held.
Mrs. Sherman was born in Ashe County, the Laurel Springs community on August 12, 1925 to the late Gilbert C. and Mary Hester Woodie Woodie. Ella Mae lived in Williamsburg, VA for most of her life where she worked and retired from Casey's after twenty-three years. She was a member at the Liberty Baptist Church in Lanexa, VA. She will be buried beside of her ex-husband, Clarence Herbert Sherman in the Williamsburg Memorial Park in Williamsburg, VA. Mrs. Sherman had moved back to Ashe County almost fifteen years ago for the last part of her life. She was known as a very loving and giving person. She is also preceded in death by one brother, Worth Woodie and one sister, Dorothy Bernice Woodie Reeves.
She is survived by a step daughter, Linda Sturgill and husband, Johnny of Moneta, VA; two sisters, Florence Marie Woodie Miller and Anna Lee Woodie Darnell both of Laurel Springs; one step granddaughter, Sharry Chenault; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A special thanks would like to be expressed to her caretaker, Karen Lawler; a special nephew & niece, Phil and Bennett Darnell, special friend, Ruby Ellis and all her other friends and neighbors that took the time to visit with her.
