Mr. Fred Newland Mash, age 91, of Jefferson passed away Saturday night, June 27, 2015 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in the Mash Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Mash was born in Ashe County on Thursday, January 24, 1924 to the late Vonley and Maida Severt Mash. He retired from Weeks Construction, where he worked as a Lineman. He enjoyed working around the farm and putting up his hay. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Medlin Mash; one brother, Wade Mash; three sisters, Rae Miller, Mert Haynes and Maxie Severt. Mr. Mash is survived by two sons, Johnny Newland Mash and wife, Tina, of Jefferson and Fred Steven Mash and wife Ginger, of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Connie McNeill, of West Jefferson; two grandchildren, Jonathan Mash and Jaron Mash; several nieces and nephews also survive.
