Obituary of Coleman Max Payne

Mr. Coleman "Max" Payne, age 85, of West Jefferson passed away Monday, July 20, 2015 at his residence. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 1:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with masonic rites. Mr. Payne was born in Ashe County on Saturday, February 1, 1930 to the late Coleman Melton and Margaret Hazel Phillips Payne. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korea Conflict. He was co-owner/operator, with his brother John Charles, of Payne Pontiac- Buick. He was past master of Masonic Lodge #594 and past president of Ashe Shrine Club. Max was also retired member of the West Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department and Ashe County Rescue Squad. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all. He is survived by His wife, Mary Miller Payne; a son, Marc Payne and wife, Pam, of West Jefferson; a brother, John Charles Payne and wife, Mary Sue, of West Jefferson; two grandsons, Coleman Payne and Bryson Payne, of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
