Mrs. Linda Rae Shatley Hartwell, age 72, of Jefferson passed away Monday morning, August 3, 2015 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00pm on Wednesday, prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Hartwell was born in Ashe County on October 14, 1942 to the late Grover B. and Stella Saunders Shatley. She worked as a switchboard operator for Lowe's Improvement Center. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook. She always helped with VBS and any other church functions. She is survived by a brother, Jimmy Shatley, of Jefferson; two nieces, Michelle S. Thomas and husband, Kevin of Richfield, NC and Nicole S. Haire and husband, Mark, of Concord; a great niece, Alyssa Thomas; two great nephews, Kaleb Thomas and Kyle Thomas also survive.
