Mr. Orvil Houck better known as “Shorty”, age 85 of Warrensville passed away Monday morning, August 17, 2015 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 2:00PM at Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Dollar officiating. Burial will follow in the Hunter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm, two hours prior to the funeral service on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Mr. Houck was born in Ashe County on September 23, 1929 to the Herbert and Bessie Lewis Houck. He was an avid outdoorsman. Short enjoyed walking the Ashe County Mountains look for ginseng and enjoying God’s country. He was an accomplished turkey hunter, cattle farmer, and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Houck is preceded in death by his wife; Ella Virginia Houck, his brothers and sisters; Sybil Purdum, Norvel Houck, Hazel Marmie, Grace Mabe, Bartie Houck, Earlene Shepherd, and infant Price Houck. He is survived by his two daughters; Lynn “Frog” Miller of Jefferson, and Katie Phipps and husband Joe of Scottville, one brother; Walter Houck of Lexington, one sister; Winnie Good of Sparta, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
