Joshua Meghoo

Obituary of Joshua Asher Meghoo

Joshua Asher Meghoo, beloved son of David and Lauren Meghoo, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the age of 21. Josh is survived by his parents, his Grandmothers, Charlotte M. Meghoo and Pauline M. Murray, his Grandfather Edward Kayser and his wife Relna, his Uncle Jayson A. Meghoo and wife Karen P. Meghoo and cousins Kalena and Candance Meghoo, his aunt Kamla James and husband Trevor James and cousin Steven James, and all his rescued pets that loved him dearly. Josh is also survived by the many people who called him brother, friend or whose life he touched and loved him for the special person that he was. Josh was a graduate of Ashe County High School in West Jefferson, NC, where he was a four year member of the marching band, steel drum band and played on the tennis team. Most recently he attended Wilkes Community College in hopes of completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Mount Jefferson Presbyterian church and went on a mission trip to Mexico where he volunteered to help those less fortunate than himself. Josh always understood that he had privileges that others didn't and wanted to give back. He also helped with Ashe Outreach Community Meal service and helped feed the county's needy. Josh loved Ashe County in all its natural beauty and could be found atop Mount Jefferson taking pictures, rafting and tubing on the New River, hiking or camping out with friends. Everyone who met Joshua loved him. He had a way of making everyone feel special and would always help people in need, from neighbors to friends, young or old - he was equal in giving of his time. To know him was a special gift, one that his parents hope everyone will remember and cherish as their lives go on, thereby keeping a part of Josh alive in their hearts. The best way to describe this special man came from one of his friends, "Josh was always popular, but he didn't care. He just liked and was friends with everyone – it didn't matter who they were!" Most of his friends just called him "Meghoo" and they all knew he was proud of his Jamaican and Italian heritage. His friends will love and miss him forever. In lieu of flowers, his parents ask that donations be made in Joshua's name to local charities such as: Ashe County Humane Society, The Nature Conservancy, Ashe Outreach, Protection Initiatives for the New River or become an organ donor like Josh was.
