Obituary of Clyde McNeill Black

Mrs. Clyde McNeill Black age 94, of West Jefferson passed away Thursday morning, September 24, 2015 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Boone Family Funeral Home with Speaker David VanHoy and Rev. Michael Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Orion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm on Sunday, two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Black was born in Ashe County on July 3, 1921 to the late Tom and Bessie Miller McNeill. She was a member of Orion Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother; she will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Manley Black; a daughter, Grace Black; three brothers, Don McNeill, Garl McNeill, and Wade McNeill; three sisters; Mary Prestwood, Lucy McNeill, and Ann Hurley; and a great-grandson, T.J. Black. Mrs. Black is survived by a one daughter, Lois Ann Sturgill and husband Jack of West Jefferson; one sister, Ida Belle Brown and husband Ray of Jefferson; five grandchildren, James Timothy Black, Christopher Lawrence Hartzog, Mitzi Hartzog Reese, Michael Brandon Campbell, and Heather Denise Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha Reese, Garin Reese, Brooke Hartzog, Holly Marie Hartzog, Amaliyah Shatley, Mackenzie Campbell and Aubrey Wood; a step grandson, Matthew Sturgill; a step great granddaughter, Alyvia Sturgill; a great grandson, Hunter Sturgill; several nieces and nephews also survive.
