Mr. Virgil Dennis Calhoun, better known as "Dennis", age 64, of Warrensville died Friday morning, December 4, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 11-1pm on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Darrell Graybeal officiating. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Family Cemetery. The family asks that you please join them after the burial at Riverview Community Center for a Celebration of Life event. Mr. Calhoun was born in Chester County, PA to the late Virgil Buel and Mary Jane Haga Calhoun. He built many commercial buildings and homes in Ashe County such as Forrest Ridge Assisted Living, Nations Inn, Boone Family Funeral Home and the New River State Park Visitor Center to name a few. He enjoyed riding his Indian motorcycle, playing guitar, cooking and being surrounded by family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Doug Calhoun, Don Calhoun and Dean Calhoun; and a sister, Marjorie Wiles. Mr. Calhoun is survived by his wife, of 25 years, Karen Bohenick Calhoun; three sons, Michael Weaver, of Phoenixville, PA, Daniel Gift, of Warrensville and David Gift, of Aydlett, NC; three daughters, Angie Gift, of Warrensville, Denise Calhoun, of Warrensville and Christina Bennett and husband, Mike, of West Jefferson; four sisters, Janet Dyke, of Germany, Fran Rush, of Kennett Square, PA, Betty Hughes, of Landenberg, PA and Diana Primus, of East Followfield, PA; two brothers, David Calhoun, of Todd and Dale Calhoun, of Jefferson; five grandchildren; and he was a favorite uncle to many, many nieces and nephews.
