Mrs. Mae Idol Howell, age 99, of Fleetwood passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at Hillview Family Care Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 at 2PM at Laurel Springs Baptist Church, in Deep Gap with Rev. Travis Suits, Speaker John Idol and Rev. Lawrence Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1-2pm Laurel Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Howell was born in Watauga County on May 10, 1916 to the late Rufus Wesley and Nancy Watson Idol. She enjoyed cooking country meals and working in her flowers. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband; Radford Rodney Howell, two sisters; Snow Idol Miller and Lula Idol, and one brother; Lane Idol. Mrs. Howell is survived by two sons; Rodney Howell and wife Joan of Fleetwood, and Kenny Howell and wife Jane of Fleetwood, one daughter; Katy Huffman and husband David of Fleetwood, six grandchildren; Sundai Sloan and husband Phillip of Fleetwood, April Reyes and husband Gilbert of Santa Barbara, CA, Eric Huffman of West Jefferson, Jon Howell and wife Robin of Crumpler, Ken Howell and wife Kim of Fleetwood, Tim Howell of Boone, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will be meeting at the home of Katy Huffman, 1348 Cranberry Springs Road, Fleetwood, NC 28626.
