I am remembering Willie with joy. He always managed to make us laugh at ourselves at the Council on Aging (now Ashe Services for Aging). Willie was not one to take himself too seriously; but he was very serious about his friendships and doing what he could for those less fortunate.
One special memory I have of him in the early '80s: harvesting potatoes with Shade Miller, Bob McNeill and Lee Eldreth. Those potatoes were raised to share with the elderly and disabled in Ashe County - (preceeding the Sharing Center.)
I loved him too.
