Obituary of Jan Hamby

Mrs. Jan Richardson Hamby, age 59, of West Jefferson passed Friday morning, February 19, 2016 at Ashe Memorial Hospital, where she received excellent care. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at 4PM at Mount Paddy Church with Rev. Tim Roten officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4pm at Mount Paddy Church. She was the wife of Dennis Hamby who loved her dearly. They shared 44 years and 3 children together, Jennifer, Chris and Megan. Jan was the daughter of Eulon and Wilma Richardson of Crumpler, NC. She had two brothers, Tim and PY Richardson. She also had one sister, Sheila Richardson James, who selflessly donated Jan a kidney that gave her an extra 20 years with us. “Nanny” was a very proud grandmother of Annie, Sam and Olivia. If you knew Jan, you already know all about her grandkids! Jan also loved her animals, especially her dogs and beloved horses. Her dogs, Jack and Charlie will miss her. Jan is also leaving behind some dear friends. She was known for being a funny lady with a kind heart. She endured a lot of sickness in her 59 years here on earth, but always handled it with an unwavering strength and faith. Her family rejoices in knowing she is pain free and she is walking in heaven with her dad. Funeral services were held at her home church, Mt Paddy with the reverend and friend Tim Roten officiating. Memorial donations can be made to the family, C/O Boone Family Funeral Home, PO Box 786, West Jefferson, NC 28694
