Mrs. Mary Cook Nelson, age 91, of West Jefferson passed away Sunday night, February 28, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11:00AM Boone Family Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Lea and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 6-8pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Nelson was born in Forsyth County on November 7, 1924 to the late Benjamin and Bessie Welborn Cook. She traveled afar to play her favorite game, golf. She also enjoyed playing bridge. She was also preceded in death by her three husbands; Eugene Robert, Boyd Etters, and Charles Nelson, and two brothers; Brice Cook and James F. Cook. Mrs. Nelson is survived by one son; Craig Robert and wife Linda of Hickory, one brother; John Daniel Cook and wife Rose of Boone, two sisters; Juanita Houck and husband Edwin of West Jefferson, and Wynona Hodges of Baltimore, two grandchildren; Brian Robert of Charlotte, and Christie Strahler and husband Doug of Knightdale, NC, and one great-granddaughter; Penny Strahler also survives.
