Obituary of David Wilson Lambert
Mr. David Wilson Lambert, age 74 of Crumpler passed away Tuesday morning, April 5, 2016 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Boone Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Elledge and Rev. Jim Hopson officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lambert was born in Ashe County on August 5, 1941 to the late Paul and Mabel Mash Lambert. He worked his entire professional life in the telephone construction trade. He started his career at a young age and traveled extensively contracting on military bases across the United States. He continued telephone construction as a private contractor until he started his career with Skyline Telephone Membership Corporation. He worked at Skyline Telephone for 16 years retiring in 1997. After a brief retirement he returned to work with Dycom Communications in Elizabeth City, North Carolina before returning to Ashe County.
David was extremely hardworking. Even in his spare time outside of work, he owned and operated a small cattle and tobacco farm in Crumpler. He loved working in the outdoors.
He was also known for his prime rib. He catered parties and events on the side for many years supporting local schools and businesses. He liked for people around him to have a good time and catering seemed to satisfy this need.
He liked to hunt, fish and enjoyed sports as a spectator and participant. He played industrial league basketball and softball and was a good golfer. He had a Hole-in-One in 1997 at Birchwood Country Club in Rocky Mount, NC. A moment shared with his son Michael, brother Tom and nephew Tommy.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Francis Lambert, brother, Thomas Lambert of Rocky Mount, NC and sister, June Walker of Crumpler. He is survived by his son, Michael and wife Jeannie of Glastonbury, Connecticut, and two granddaughters, Meredith and Gabrielle. In addition, he is survived by two sisters, Ruth Lambert Barnes and husband Joe of Crumpler and Ethelene Lambert Roark and husband the late Boyce Roark of Rocky Mount, NC.
