Obituary of Nellie Alberta Woodie
Nellie Alberta Bledsoe Woodie, age 86, of the Wagoner Community, died Thursday morning, May 28, at Select Specialty Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tommy McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Roans Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday at Boone Family Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. prior to the funeral.
Mrs. Woodie was born in Grundy, Kentucky, on May 13, 1923, to Jess and Maude Stringer Bledsoe. She was a homemaker who raised six children and lived most of her life in Ashe County. Her husband of more than 50 years, Linnie Harding Woodie, and an infant son, Irving Young Woodie, preceded her in death.
She is survived by five sons, Ray Woodie, of Earlville, Maryland; Tony Woodie, of Newark, Delaware; David "Mike" Woodie and wife, Grishka, of Bear, Delaware; Jeffrey Woodie of Earlville, Maryland; Joe Woodie, of Jefferson; and one daughter, Susan Woodie Fetcho and husband, John, of Ellicott City, Maryland.
She is survived by six granddaughters: Shelley Wise, Stacia Emerick, Jerilyn Woodie, Sasha McNaughton, Susan Dorrin, and Lily Fetcho; and seven grandsons: David C. Woodie, Jonathan Woodie, Corey Cebula, Michael Woodie, Steven Woodie, Jason Woodie, and Trace Woodie; and by nine great-grandchildren.
One sister-in-law, Louise Bishop, and several nieces and nephews also survive her.
Mrs. Woodie's children extend their heartfelt gratitude to cousins Linda Greene, Sharon Langhorne, Judy Shatley and David Sheets, for their extraordinary kindness during her last days.
