Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton Garrett, age 94, of West Jefferson passed away Thursday night, August 4, 2016 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brenda Faust and Rev. Fontrina Wray officiating. Burial will follow in Cold Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00pm on Monday, August 8, 2016; two hours prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Garrett was born in Ashe County on February 18, 1922 to the late Lenny and Mamie Hamilton. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother; she will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pinkey Alexander Garrett (Jake); three sons, Harold Dean Garrett, Junior Alexander Garrett and Danny Kay Garrett; four daughters, Betty Lou Garrett, Mary Katherine Garrett, Shirley Bailey and Joann Dalton; five brothers, J.C. Hamilton, Garfield Hamilton, Robert Hamilton, Carl Hamilton, and Joe Lewis Hamilton; four sisters, Hazel Martin, Inez Banks, Martha Ellen Hamilton and Helen Von. Mrs. Garrett is survived by two sons, Michael Garrett, of West Jefferson and Eric Garrett, of Lenoir; four daughters, Doris Parks, of Wilkesboro, Diane Hayes, of Charlotte, Mildred Garrett, of West Jefferson and Valerie Garrett, of West Jefferson; a step son, Clifford Hamilton, of Wilkesboro; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
