Mr. Randy Dean Hartzog, age 60, of West Jefferson passed away Friday afternoon, September 23, 2016 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the riverside at 3789 Hartzog Ford Road in West Jefferson with Speaker Mark Bower officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at Pine Swamp Baptist Church. Mr. Hartzog was born in Ashe County on Saturday, November 12, 1955 to the late Howard and Jennie Hartzog. He retired from Gate's Rubber Company after working 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, kayaking and camping. He was a wonderful husband, father and brother; he will be missed by all. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Henry Hartzog. Mr. Hartzog is survived by: his wife, Phoebe Gochnauer; two daughters , Emily Caroline Hartzog and Sara Kathrine Hartzog, both of Boone; a sister, Dawna Benedict, of West Jefferson; two brothers, Howard Dudley Hartzog and wife, Peggy, of Florida and Terry Darrell Hartzog and wife, Geraldine, of West Jefferson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
