Obituary of Hazel Gilbert

Mrs. Hazel Jones Lewis Gilbert, age 91, of West Jefferson passed away Sunday morning, October 23, 2016 at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 11:00am at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Joey McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Kemp-Lewis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am on Wednesday; one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Gilbert was born in Ashe County on October 26, 2016 to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Parsons Jones. She was a cook for many years at Greenfield Restaurant. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting and working in her flower garden. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clay Gilbert; a son, Jerry David Lewis; two brothers, Earl Jones and James Jones; three sisters, Virgie Harless, Lois Sheets and Minnie Lewis. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by a son , Lee Lewis, better known as Pete, and wife, Bobbie, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Martha Avery and husband, Danny, of Greer, SC; a brother, Clyde Jones and wife, Pearl, of West Jefferson; a sister, Danish Hodgson, of West Jefferson; three grandchildren, Joy and Melanie Lewis, both of West Jefferson and Amy Ratley and husband, Dwight, of Laurinburg, NC; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Turner Ratley, of Laurinburg, NC; several nieces and nephews also survive. Flowers will be appreciated.
