Mrs. Wilma Jean Turner Shepherd, age 80, of West Jefferson, passed away on Saturday morning, November 5, 2016 at Margate Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 12PM at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. George Grubb officiating. Burial will follow in the Turner Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 11-12pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Shepherd was born in Ashe County, on December 14, 1935 to the late Joseph Sanford and Elza Perkins Turner. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by her husband; Conley Walter Shepherd; a grandson, Trent Michael Shepherd. Mrs. Shepherd is survived by two sons; Joey Shepherd and wife Karrah, of West Jefferson, and Michael Shepherd and wife Sherry, of West Jefferson, four sisters; Mary Hopkins and husband Ronnie, of West Jefferson, Kathiryn Ashley of Warrensville, Dora Smith and Ralph of West Jefferson, and Ruth White and husband Jim of Lexington, one brother; Lillard Turner and wife Lena of West Jefferson, one sister-in-law; Mable Turner of Warrensville, five grandchildren; Bethany and Brandon McElroy of Topsoil Beach, Brittany Shepherd and fiancé Allen Testerman of Greensboro, Destiny and Josh Baker of Glendale Springs, Dawson Shepherd of West Jefferson, and Branson Shepherd of West Jefferson, two great-grandchildren; Caden and Savannah McElroy and one on the way, several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Turner Family Cemetery, C/O Mary Hopkins, 919 Black Bear Inn Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694. The family will be meeting at the home place, 519-A Beaver Creek School Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
