Mrs. Virginia Gertrude Weaver, better known as “Gert”, age 96 of West Jefferson passed away Friday afternoon at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 3pm at West Jefferson United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Perry Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at West Jefferson United Methodist Church. Mrs. Weaver was born in Ashe County on September 10, 1920 to the late Thomas Jenkins and Carrie Roten Jenkins. She retired from Sprague Electric. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by her husband; Thomas B Weaver, daughter; Nancy Weaver Emerson, a son; Roger Keith Weaver, her six sisters, two grandsons; Steven Hartsog and Jeff Weaver. She is survived by three sons; Tommy Weaver and wife Nell of Leesburg, GA, Clyde Weaver of West Jefferson, and Jerry Weaver and wife Pat of Galax, VA, three daughters; Zenna Hartsog and husband Thomas of Elon, NC, Sue Greer and husband Allen of Tulsa, OK, and Esther Brooks of West Jefferson, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
