Obituary of Roy Denver Miller

Mr. Roy Denver Miller, age 86, of Concord, formerly of Ashe County passed Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at his home, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the George Miller Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pmon Saturday; one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Miller was born in Ashe County on December 5, 1929 to the late George and Sallie Cox Miller. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rae Mash Miller; five brothers, John, Paul, Claude, Don and Dennis Miller and his sister, Roxie Sheets. The Miller family moved from Ashe County to Kannapolis area in 1967 for saw mill work. Mr. Miller continued in the carpentry profession, becoming a skilled and talented cabinet maker. A devoted and active member of Central Baptist Church, he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, was active in the church construction, and along with his wife, helped with the youth camp and the seniors group. Mr. Miller is survived by a daughter, Evelyn M. Shatley, of Concord; his granddaughters, Michelle Thomas (Kevin) and Nicole Haire (Mark); great grandchildren, Kaleb, Alyssa and Kyle Thomas; hos brothers, Benny (Shirley) and Billy Ray (Betty) Miller; sister-in-law, Connie McNeil and nieces and nephews also survives. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to George Miller Cemetery, c/o Billy Ray Miller, 636 Glendale School Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
