Mr. Dwight Freeman Holman, Sr., age 79, of Jefferson passed away Thursday night, December 29, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Goodman and Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial will follow in the Bald Mountain Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Holman was born in Ashe County on Friday, March 19, 1937 to the late Freeman Hall and Martha Mae Orfield Holman. He ran his own sawmill most of his life, he was a hardworking man, and loved to work with his horses. Dwight also loved to work in his garden and share it with his neighbors and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and will be missed by all. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Holman and Tom Holman and a sister, Phyllis Holman. Mr. Holman is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary Evans Holman; three sons, Dwight Holman Jr. and wife Beth of Jefferson, Robert Holman of Texas, and Rex Holman and wife Angie of Millers Creek; two daughters, Tina Ashley and husband Jeff of Jefferson and Vicki Perry and husband Scott of Millers Creek; four sisters, Peggy Calloway and husband, Johnny, of West Jefferson, Anna Mae Goodman, of Jefferson, Vivian Martin, of Jefferson and Kathy Holman, of Winston Salem, NC; six brothers, Wayne Holman and wife, Judy, of Lansing, Kyle Holman and wife, Shirley, of Todd, Robbie Holman and wife, Dana, of West Jefferson, Michael Holman and wife, Wanda, of Grundy, VA, Harold Holman and wife, Clara, of Steinhatchee, Florida and George Holman and wife, Diane, of Sanford; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will be meeting at the home place, 485 Wagoner Access Road, Jefferson, NC 28640.
