Our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family. Words alone can not ease the pain when grieving the loss of a love one. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". May God give you and your family comfort in your loving memories and in His promise that soon we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope, with deepest sympathy and warmth of heart.

Peggy and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I just watched the video and I noticed that in all the photos Joe is smiling and I don't think I ever saw him many times when he was not and always made everyone else smile too. I am sure there are a lot of smiles in heaven right about now. Love to everyone and I am sorry I was not able to attend any of the services.

So sorry to hear about Joe's death. Our Bryson City Presbyterian Church family prayed for your family in worship on Sunday. Stories were shared of Joe during our coffee time. Delia Watkins remembers Joe giving his coat to keep her husband warm when they were taking her husband to the hospital many years ago. His faith and kindness will always be remembered by all of us here at BCPC. Our prayers will continue to be with you. Pastor Terry

We were saddened to hear of Joe's home going. It seems like only yesterday we were sitting at Freddie's in Burlington enjoying a burger and our time together. Ms. Peggy, we will mourn your loss as well as ours but we will celebrate Joe's reception into the arms of Jesus, his Savior and Lord.
Joe was a true friend and a joy to be around. His smile was contagious and he was one of those people you could just sit and talk with for hours. We have been so blessed to have both of you as our friends. We love you and will continue to lift you up in prayer.

I recall hearing about Joe when I first started working for the National Parks. " He is a loyal and committed ranger who will always be there for you" Truer words have never been spoken. No matter the situation at hand, Joe was always there to help. A tireless employee who set an example of word and deed to his fellow rangers.
Joe was generous sharing his knowledge of the woods and always made it a point to offer opportunities to teach those who worked with him. His sense of humor and subsequent laugh was always refreshing.
Our hearts go out to Peggy and the children, we love you and wish you peace.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful man with us.

Peggy and family,
I can picture Joe's friendly smile both inside and outside the Bryson City Presbyterian Church, and recall the enjoyable interview Wendy Meyers and I had a couple of years ago as Joe recounted memories of his days with the Park Service. Both Mama and Daddy thought the world of you all, and I'm sure the same was true for many in our community whose lives you both touched.
Praying for peace that passeth understanding,
Don Casada

I had the privilege of working with Joe as a ranger with the National Park Service in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from 1980 to 1983. He was a true professional, skilled at his craft and dedicated to protecting people and the resources of the Smokies. He had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious laugh and was married to an amazing woman, Peggy. My wife and i are so sorry for your loss but trust that he is in good hands and keeping an eye out for all of us.

Peggy and family--I was deeply saddened when a friend of your family was gracious enough to notify me of Joe's death. He was a good and decent man, an exemplar of his chosen profession, and an asset to Bryson City and Swain County in your years there. Daddy always thought the world of him and greatly appreciated what you folks brought to the Bryson City Presbyterian Church.
My thoughts and sympathies are with you in this time of sorrow.
