Mrs. Ruth Farmer Robertson of Laurel Springs died peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. A welcoming graveside service will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 1:00pm at Bailey Cemetery in Bailey, NC with Rev. Jeffery Bumgarner officiating. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Laurel Fork Presbyterian Church, 15232 NC Hwy 18 South in Laurel Springs, NC. After the services, the family will receive friends. Mrs. Robertson was born in Nash County on September 27, 1931 to the late Benjamin Morgan and Swannie High Farmer. She attended Bailey High School and graduated from UNC Greensboro with a degree in "Home Economics Education." Later she received a Master's Degree from NCSU in Adult Education. Ruth taught high school "Home Economics" from 1953-1965 in Dunn and Nashville, NC. She then was Director of School Food Service in Nash County and Wake County until retirement in 1983. She was honored to be President of the NC School Food Service Association as well as a leader with The National Association of Child Nutrition. Ruth married Robert L. Robertson (Bob) on March 13, 1965; she said many times that he was one of the best things to ever happen to her. After retirement they moved from Cary to enjoy their life in the mountains. She especially loved her church, her friends, and always her family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby D. Perry of Nashville, NC; four brothers, Burnice Farmer, Bruce Farmer, Jack Farmer and Kenneth Farmer. Mrs. Robertson is survived by her husband, Robert L. Robertson; a daughter, Karen Perry Ferrell and husband, Mickey; a dear sister, Rachel Farmer Beasley; a grandson, Perry Michael Ferrell.
