Mrs. Bernice Absher Lewis, age 80, of West Jefferson passed away Thursday evening, January 12, 2017 at Margate Health & Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Joey McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00-2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Lewis was born in Ashe County on July 15, 1936 to the late Don and Dora Blackburn Absher. In Bernice's younger years, she made a lot of clothes for her children and her nieces. She was an expect seamstress. She was a member of Flat Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching the birds and cooking meals for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all. She is preceded in death by a brother, Fred Absher. She survived by her husband, Jack Lewis; four daughters, Debbie Kay Eldreth and husband Johnny, of Jefferson, Jackie Lynn Lewis, of Harmony, Norma Lewis, of Harmony and Marie Lewis, of Statesville; one son, James Lewis and wife Michelle, of Lansing, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
