How do you honor someone who has lived so long, has seen so much and has touched so many lives. A man who lived through the Great Depression, fought in World War II and has seen the world change so much.
John Robert grew up on a farm near Charlotte, NC. After high school he enlisted in the Navy to see the world. And see the world he did several times around during his 8 years of service including fighting during World War II. He served aboard two naval destroyers, the USS Mayrant under the command of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr and aboard the USS Charles Badger. He fought is many naval battles including his most memorable one, the battle at Casablanca during the invasion of North Africa. He was very proud of his years in the Navy and the service to his country.
John Robert loved the outdoors. He loved gardening, especially growing tomatoes. In his younger years he enjoyed camping, boating and hiking with his family. He taught his two children son, John Robert Beard, III (deceased) and daughter, Ellen to appreciate and respect nature and the outdoors. John loved listening to all types of music and although he never played a musical instrument he had great respect for those who did.
John Robert was an inspiration to his family and friends. He will always be remembered and loved.
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind always be at your back
May the warm sun shine upon your face
And the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of your hand
