Burrell Strat Bare, 93 of Jefferson, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 1PM at Boone Family Funeral Home with Elder James McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 6:30-8:30pm at Boone Family Funeral Home. He was born in Ashe County on January 11, 1924 to Hiram and Mertie Ann Bare Bare. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Helen Church Bare, by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Bare (Thomas A. Zang, Jr.), of Raleigh, and by two sisters-in-law (Almarea G. Bare, Hazel P. Bare); several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his son, Gwyn Bare, and his 10 brothers and sisters. After his graduation from Nathans Creek High School, Burrell served his country in the Army Air Corps during the Second World War. After his military service he returned to Ashe County, where he and his wife farmed their land until a year before his death. He could always be counted on to help his neighbors, or anyone else in need. Molasses making on the farm was a highlight of the Fall since 1963. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
