Davis, Jr. and Robert H. Davis also preceded her. Georgia Ruth Oliver Davis was born December 17, 1921 to George Newton and Nancy Cordella Green Oliver in West Jefferson, NC. Growing up in West Jefferson in a humble, loving home, she graduated from West Jefferson High School and later married her classmate Sam Davis in 1940. Emerging from the World War II years with three small sons and soon after a daughter; Georgia became a homemaker, participating in church, scouting, gardening and rearing her family, alongside her husband, Sam. A life-long member of First Baptist Church of West Jefferson, she spent many decades as Sunday School teacher, WMU leader, Bible School helper and Baptist Training Union participant. She was a devout student of the Holy Bible and was well known for the charitable and compassion-filled life she lived. In her later years, she was a very active participant in the local chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her love of sewing, knitting and quilting occupied many joyful hours and produced many beautiful creations. Her skills as a cook, honed through the necessity of feeding a large family and the influence of her mother, were highly appreciated by those who were fortunate enough to dine in her home. Her legacy is one generosity, compassion, and love and being loved by her family and those who knew her. She confronted the many tragedies in her life with dignity, courage and faith, always with her beautiful smile and welcoming personality. Above all, she loved God and His creation.
