Obituary of Richard Edward Woodie

Mr. Richard Edward Woodie, better known as "Eddie" age 89, of West Jefferson, passed away Monday morning at Seagraves Nursing Care Center in Jefferson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm on Thursday, one hour prior to the funeral service at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Woodie was born in Glendale Springs, Ashe County on Saturday, March 13, 1920 to the late Edward Talton "E.T." and Belle Faw Woodie. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. He retired from Ashe County Motors after forty-nine years of dedicated work. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lane Dillard Woodie, two sisters, Lorraine Hall and Blanch Lackey both of which lived in Greensboro. He is survived by one daughter, Allison Simmons and husband, William of Waxhaw, NC; one brother, Fred Woodie of Roanoke, VA; three sisters, Margaret Bare and Nina Northington, both of Greensboro, Pauline Case of Albemarle, NC; two brother-in-law's, Tommy Lackey and David Dillard and wife, Jane; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association Triad Area of NC, 202 CentrePort Drive, Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409 or to the Ashe Humane Society, P.O. Box 1776, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
