Mr. James Mitchell McClure, age 74, of Jefferson passed away Sunday morning, February 19, 2017 at Duke University Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Tommy McClure, Rev. Joey McClure and Rev. Randy McClure officiating. Burial will follow in the Baptist Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. McClure was born in Rugby, Virginia on November 16, 1942 to the late Walter Lee and Virginia Hamilton McClure. He was a member of Baptist Chapel Church. He worked as a mechanic. He volunteered at Ashe County Rescue Squad and Jefferson Fire Department, where he retired after 27 years. James was also Search Coordinator for Ashe county, he was a devoted to public service. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and reading his Bible. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Reedy. Mr. McClure is survived by his wife, of 30 years of marriage, Debbie Lynn Elliott McClure; two sons, Darrell McClure and wife, Ann, of Jefferson and Randy McClure and wife, Karen, of Vilas; two daughters, Brenda McClure Blevins, of Jefferson and Tasha McClure, of the home; a step son, Jeff McClure, of Jefferson; three brothers, Lee McClure, of Statesville, Keith McClure and wife, Mary, of West Jefferson and Rev. Tommy McClure and wife, Diane, of Lansing; two sisters, June Barnes and husband, Jackie, of Rugby, VA and Carol Roten and husband, Jack, of Lansing; nine grandchildren, Torin Brown, Hannah Bowen, Sabrina Farrington, Matthew Wood, Tiffany Hall, Josh McClure, Jada McClure, Dustin Snyder and Karissa McClure; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
