Mr. James Stephen Sawyer, better known as "Steve", age 70, of Warrensville, passed away Thursday morning, April 6, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred Richardson, Rev. Lloyd Day and Brother Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Welch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Boone Family Funeral Home. Mr. Sawyer was born in Ashe County on September 14, 1946 to the late Frank Ray Sawyer and Lola Marie Brooks Sawyer. He enjoyed collecting arrowheads, ginseng hunting, refurnishing furniture and fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by a brother, Arvil Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer is survived by his wife, Wanda Wooten Sawyer; two daughters, Rhonda Testerman and husband, Dale, of Warrensville and Cindy Rupard and husband, Eric, of Warrensville; his mother, Lola Brooks Sawyer Greer, of Warrensville; a brother, Alan Sawyer and wife, Edna, of Warrensville; a sister-n-law, Madge Sawyer, of Warrensville; four grandchildren, Erica Roten and husband, Scott, of Lansing, Chad Testerman and wife, Kimberly, of Todd, Devin Rupard and Molly Rupard, both of Warrensville; a great-grandchild, Raylan Roten; several nieces and nephews also survive.
