Mrs. Virginia Mae Pollard Caldwell, age 77, of West Jefferson, passed away Sunday evening, June 21, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the New River Baptist Church, 1619 Weaver's Ford Road, Grassy Creek, NC 28631 with Rev. Reeves Jones and Speaker Brandon Dillard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 pm on Wednesday, two hours prior to the funeral service at the New River Baptist Church. Mrs. Caldwell was born in Alleghany County on Saturday, October 3, 1931 to the late James William and Dossie Huffman Pollard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Caldwell. She is survived by two sons, James Caldwell of Concord, John Wesley Caldwell of Thomasville; three daughters, Candy Caldwell of North Wilkesboro, Gay Faw of Taylorsville, Sandy Wagoner of West Jefferson; five brothers, Bill Pollard of Germantown, Larry Pollard of Valdese, Harold Pollard of Crumpler, James Pollard of Jefferson, Earnest Pollard of West Jefferson; three sisters, Gearl Farmer of Germantown, Lucille Waller of Greensboro, Lena Stamper of Jefferson; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
