Mr. Walter Donald Hatcher, age 75, of North Wilkesboro, formerly of Ashe County, passed away Sunday morning, September 17, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 2:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Fontrina Wray and Speaker Brenda Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in the Poe Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00pm; one hour prior to the funeral service. Mr. Hatcher was born in Surry County on August 2, 1942 to the late Wallace and Linda Eliza Dearmon Hatcher. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, loud cars and storytelling. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruth Hatcher, Jacklyn Hatcher, Fannie Johnson, Linda Hatcher and Deronica Brown; two brothers, Samuel Hatcher and James Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher is survived by his significant other, Wanda Davis; six sons , Robert Donald Simmons, of Wilkesboro, Wesley Poe, of Wilkesboro, Tracy Poe, of Boone, Mark Poe, of Jefferson, David Poe, of Raleigh and Zechariah Hatcher, of Winston; three daughters, Robin Howell, of Winston, Shameka Carter, of Winston and Kemblin Stephens, of Charlotte; two sisters, Willia Jean Miller, of Winston and Mattie "Oakee" Hatcher ; of Winston; twenty-five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
