Mr. Wiley Austin Baker, better known as "Austin, age 86, of West Jefferson passed away Sunday morning, September 24, 2017 at his home. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 1:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve LeaShomb officiating. Burial will follow in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00pm on Wednesday; one hour prior to the memorial service. Mr. Baker was born in Wilkes County on September 29, 1930 to the late Taft and Virgie Church Baker. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Austin was a car salesman for many years. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dean Baker, Glen Baker and Cline Baker. Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Kay Miller Baker; two sons, Larry Baker and wife, Sonya, of Fleetwood and Tommy Miller and wife, Donna, of Naperville, Illinois; two daughters, Rhonda Herman and husband, Mike, of Jefferson and Jamie Miller Vela, of Laurel Springs; two brothers, Arvil Baker and wife, Joyce, of Fleetwood and Arvin Baker and wife, Janice, of Alabama; two sisters, Ima Lee Golds and husband, Ray, of Fleetwood and Arlene Goodman and husband, Gale, of Canton, NC; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
