Mr. George Calvin Green, Jr. better known as G.C., age 90, of West Jefferson passed away Wednesday evening, October 11, 2017 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of West Jefferson with Rev. Michael Lea officiating. Burial will follow in the West Jefferson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday; two hours prior to the funeral service. Mr. Green was born in Ashe County on Monday, August 15, 1927 to the late George Calvin and Josie Jones Green. G.C. was a member of First Baptist Church of West Jefferson. He was founder of W.J. Hardware in the year 1947. He enjoyed working in the store but every Wednesday he had a second love, his farm: where he worked with his cattle, hay and fencing.He was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all. He is survived by: his wife, of 63 years of marriage, Wilda Little Green; a son, Calvin Green and wife, Dot, of West Jefferson; two grandsons, Darren Green of West Jefferson and Derek Green and wife, Caroline also survives.
