Obituary of Worth Finley

Mr. Worth Finley, age 88, of Lansing, passed away Friday morning, October 13, 2017 at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 1:00pm at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Greer, Rev. Larry Peak, and Rev. Ronnie Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Calhoun Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel. Worth Finley was born in Ashe County on May 13, 1929 to Andrew Jackson and Locke Olevea Brooks Finley. Worth grew up in Little Horse Creek community of Ashe County. Worth answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the Army, becoming a solider in the 532d Amphibious Support Brigade and deployed to Korea in 1952. After returning home from Korea, Worth met Pearl Virginia Lewis. They were married on January 27, 1955. They had four children: Carol, Diana, James and Melissa. Worth and Pearl were married for 48 years. Worth is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl and a son, James. Worth was a man of great faith who loved the Lord, his church and his family with all of his heart. He especially loved his grandchildren: Jenny, Becky, Heather, April, Kendra, Laken, Jamie, Emma, Brooke, Marissa, Thomas, Macie, Loralie and Adalyn. He had many friends and always had a smile for those around him. He enjoyed reading his Bible, being outside, sitting on his porch in the evening. He loved to go to Hardee's every morning and later stopping in to see his buddies at Mountain Grocery. He will be missed by many. Mr. Finley is survived by three daughters, Carol Greer and husband, Richard, of Lansing, Diana Weaver, of Warrensville and Melissa Fowler and husband, Thomas B. Jr. of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca, Heather, April, Laken, Jamie, Kendra, and Emma; six great-grandchildren, Loralie, Macie, Thomas, Brooke, Marissa, and Adalyn; several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to D.A.V., Ashe County Chapter 80, 1531 Idlewild Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
